Counselling and therapy isn't just about managing a crisis. It can be many things in many different situations. There's nothing quite like feeling empowered on life's journey, especially when challenges come our way, and sometimes we just need a boost to feel encouraged, clear or focused. Psychotherapy is the name given to the process of talk therapy that uses the therapeutic relationship of client and therapist to work through issues and discomfort.

 

I believe in the power of working together with you as a team, to discover the things that work for you, and that help you bring out your best. We all have strengths to draw from, and perhaps we have yet to discover some of them. We can learn easy techniques to help improve our journey, and make the most of every situation we find ourselves in.

 

You may have something specific you would like to work towards. Sometimes you might just not know where to start. That's OK. There's no right way to get started, so even if you aren't sure of why you'd like to have counselling, or what specifically you'd like to address, remember that each journey we take starts with one single step. How long will I have to have therapy?

How long does a session run?

Generally I suggest having 3 sessions initially and then we can review. After all, it's good to know whether we will be a good fit. It's important to feel comfortable with your therapist, and your therapist needs to evaluate if they have the best skills to help you. You will generally benefit from have a few sessions in a row to begin with as you and your counsellor work together on your immediate circumstance, and then you might like to book in a session only when you feel you need it.

You might only like to have a few sessions, or you might see the benefit in having ongoing support. You're in charge, but when you decide to end your sessions, it's important to have one final session of closure.

 

As a new client you will first have an intake phone call with me, which usually lasts around 20 minutes. This call helps me learn a little about you and your circumstances and gives you the chance to share any information you think I may need, and to ask questions you may have. This phone call is not a counselling session itself, but is part of the process of booking with me.

A regularly session will run for 1 hour, but sometimes a client might request a longer session. This can be arranged beforehand. Please let me know in advance if you would like to book a longer session so we can guarantee the extra time needed.

What happens in a counselling & psychotherapy session?

Every session is different, because every person is unique with their own needs and circumstances. Your first session will be a chance for you to get to know me as your counsellor and share information about you. This is one of the reasons why your first session is longer. Psychotherapy is the name given to the process of talk therapy that uses the therapeutic relationship of client and therapist to work through issues and discomfort.

 

You can be completely assured of privacy and confidentiality as I work with a strict code of ethical standards. During our sessions I am focused totally on you and your needs, without judgement and with dedicated care. As you work towards your goals, you will be directing every decision making process with my full support, because you are the best expert on you. Together we will work as a team to create positive outcomes based on your needs.

What are your fees?

Regular session fees are $120 for one-to-one 60min counselling sessions ($80 consession). (Families, Couples, Additional Needs and longer counselling sessions attract additional fees.)


Your first session is very important and runs runs a little longer (75mins). This session often includes an intake phonecall or other form of communication prior to the session to gather information about the client. Visits away from the studio will be priced with additional travel time and costs, and will depend on the location. Payments are made at the beginning of each session.

What is a Zoom session?

This is an online face-to-face session using the Zoom conferencing tool, similar to Skype. It's encrypted so it's safe and secure.  Zoom sessions are great if travel is difficult or you are are long-distant client. Early zoom sessions before 9am can be requested.
