Creativity and play can take us beyond words, and help us to discover different parts of ourselves as we explore the possibilities. Creative expression can help us express ideas and symbolism as we provide space to extend opportunities for growth and a renewed personal journey.

 

Communicating through creativity is part of what makes us human, and is an interesting and sometimes exciting way to explore ourselves and the way we experience the world around us. It can also be a way to work therapeutically that reduces anxiety, and frees our thinking to explore new ways of being.

Talk therapy isn't for everyone, and sometimes situations can be difficult to talk about.

Creative therapies can provide alternative ways to express our inner world and explore new perspectives and ideas to help support the journey of living our lives. Traditional talk therapy may also be less effective in some circumstances.

Creative therapies can be beneficial for anyone, and can be particularly helpful for:

What happens during an arts psychotherapy, music or play therapy session?

Every session is different, because every person is unique. First sessions will be a chance for us to get to know each other, whilst exploring some creative activity.  We begin with communication, which provides the opportunity to build up a trusting relationship. Each therapy style is different, and so is every person, so the way we work together will be tailored to fit each person.

What are your fees?

General hourly session fees at the studio are $80 for 60min one-to-one therapy sessions (Families, Couples and sessions with additional needs attract additional fees.). Payments are made at the beginning of the session. Your first session will usually be 90mins.

All creative materials are provided for your session. The activities you do will be planned around your individual needs and will relate to your circumstances and therapeutic work you are doing.


 

How long will I have therapy?

That will remain your choice. Some therapy might aim to address something in particular, or you may have regular sessions for ongoing support.  3 sessions to begin with will help us make sure we are a good match. It's very important to feel comfortable in therapy. After we have established a therapeutic relationship ongoing sessions can also be booked casually when needed.

How long does a therapy session run?

Regular sessions run for 1 hour, but sometimes a client might request a longer session. This can be arranged beforehand, or occasionally your session may be able to be extended if time is available. Please advise me as soon as possible if you think you may need a longer session.
